If you love historic downtowns as much as we do, you will want to peruse the local shops that Frankfort has to offer.   Boutiques, Antiques, handmade local cigars, a bookstore and local makers markets (and so much more) await you!

You will notice the sculptures and murals scattered about our historic town. Frankfort is more than the state capital of Kentucky. It’s the Public Art Capital of Kentucky, a community with a rich artistic history and diverse cultural heritage.  Curated by the Josephine Sculpture Park, the Frankfort Public Art Tour invites you to take a deeper look at the Capital City to discover its historic architecture, stained-glass windows, murals, statues, and ultimately its people.  Whether you plan to map out a path to view your favorites, prefer to amble about, we invite you to enjoy the stellar art our city has to offer.

Should you like a little history with a BIG view, stop at the gravesite of Daniel and Rebecca Boone, located at the Frankfort Cemetery.  Daniel and Rebecca were originally buried in Missouri, but in 1845, the owners of the Frankfort Cemetery convinced the Boones’ descendants to allow Daniel and Rebecca’s remains to be brought back to Kentucky.  The cemetery was new at that time and what a grand marketing campaign!  An elaborate reinterment ceremony was held, featuring the governor of Kentucky and other dignitaries.  The view of the overlook from Daniel Boone’s gravesite is always camera ready, no matter the season. But please be respectful. This is still a fully operational cemetery.
