In celebration of Frankfort Heritage Week – May 16-22, 2021
Hosted by Kentucky Division of Historic Properties and presented by Ryan Hix, Maintenance Supervisor for Kentucky Department of Facilities and Support Services.
The Kentucky State Capitol’s Floral Clock was dedicated fifty years ago on May 6, 1961 by then-governor Bert T. Combs. Gov. Combs had seen a similar clock in Scotland and thought it would be a great addition to the Capitol grounds. While Happy Chandler, Governor Comb’s political rival, made a mocker of the clock, it has become one of the most visited tourist sites in Kentucky. Please join our landscaping crew to discover some of the history around what was called “Big Bert” virtually at the Berry Hill Mansion Facebook page
