Anne Braden: Southern Patriot

July 12 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm

History Café screening and discussion of “Anne Braden: Southern Patriot.”

Anne Braden was a Kentucky civil rights leader whose activities caused some people to ostracize her as a “red” in the 1950s. Other people, including Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., hailed Braden as a white southerner whose rejection of her segregationist upbringing was “eloquent and prophetic.”

Braden’s life story reveals not only the dangers of racism and political repression, but also the power of a woman’s life spent in commitment to social justice.

Cost: $10 for KHS members. $12 for others. Price includes light snacks and soft drinks. Cash bar available.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the film begins at 7 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome. Reservations appreciated. Call 502-782-8118 or email [email protected].
