Dr. Amy Murrell Taylor, University of Kentucky, will discuss her new book, “Embattled Freedom: Journeys through the Civil War’s Slave Refugee Camps.” Taylor brings fresh insight to the narrative of emancipation as she reveals the everyday experiences of the thousands of enslaved people who sought freedom within Union Army-supervised slave refugee camps, such as Camp Nelson, Kentucky.
