Join us for the third annual Paddle for a Purpose event! Paddlers of all experience levels can join Woods and Waters Land Trust and Canoe Kentucky to see all the Kentucky River has to offer each Sunday afternoon in October.
Each week the paddlers will navigate a different 4- to 6-mile section of waterway, including passing through a lock and learning about a new topic of the Kentucky River’s natural and cultural significance. Autumn colors will be peaking through this time and the river-level view of a changing landscape offers paddlers a unique perspective.
While there’s no guarantee what wildlife, birds and aquatic life will make themselves seen each week, the Paddle for a Purpose route will take paddlers under bald eagle nests, through native marine life habitat, along rich river-bottom meadows and through forested corridors. Riverside educators will cover the Dark Sky initiative protecting migratory birds, invasive plant species in riparian corridors, mussels and mollusk conservation and river history.
Paddlers booking all four Sundays receive a discount registration. All necessary equipment and shuttle services are included with registration.
Everyone — paddlers and non-paddlers alike — is invited to community celebrations that highlight all that the Kentucky River offers to our community. Join the party, beginning at 5 p.m. each week:
• Oct. 13 at Gratz Boat Ramp in Gratz, KY, Pool 2. Come to Owen County for an ice cream social at 5 pm.
