Sam Bush is an American mandolinist who is considered an originator of progressive bluegrass music. In 2020, he was inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame as a member of New Grass Revival. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame a second time in 2023 as a solo artist.

Designed to complement the upcoming 60th anniversary of the March on Frankfort, this tour takes you on a journey of resistance and triumph. When we talk about Civil Rights, we tend to think about the time after WWII through the 1960s. However, these struggles have been ongoing since Kentucky’s beginnings. Walking through historic downtown Frankfort and the Old State Capitol, we will recount ways that enslaved and oppressed people fought the injustices they faced during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Join us for this hour-long walking tour that begins and ends at the Old State Capitol, rain or shine.

The tour will take place before the March on Frankfort film screening begins at the Old State Capitol.

The 1964 March on Frankfort was organized by Kentuckians with guest speakers Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, and Jackie Robinson. Learn about the Civil War and its aftermath in Kentucky from the vantage of the State Arsenal. Constructed in 1850, the Arsenal was captured by Confederate forces in 1862 and later played a central role in the Union defense of Frankfort against John Hunt Morgan's final raid in 1864. This tour will showcase some of the notable Civil War-era artifacts and weapons displayed at the Ken­tucky Military History Museum as well as the stories behind them.
