Get outside and create in the new year! During this First Sunday Guided Nature Tour, JSP staff will introduce a nature journal template that serves as an easy, motivating way to get you and your family exploring nature and art together each month. We will use a phenology wheel template to “fill in” the month of January together, based on a special thing or moment that happens during the guided park tour. The walking tour will last approximately 30 minutes and explore JSP habitat and art, followed by the approximate 30 minute phenology wheel creation.

**Accessibility: Our paths are mowed and traverse the landscape to be as accessible as possible by motorized wheel chair. However, some paths are not accessible. Please contact us prior to your visit if you would like to reserve our golf cart.**

Explore a nature-based sustainable art practice using the cob building method with JSP Artist in Residence, Tara Remington (known as “Remi”). During this 2-hour private workshop, you will learn how to build with cob by applying the method to Remi’s sculpture, and explore Remi’s artistic practice and process. The result will be a larger-than-life-sized TerraHand interactive sculpture that overlooks a shaded forest area at Josephine Sculpture Park. One by one, you and Remi will learn and create together to build a place of rest, meditation, and healing for the Earth and community.
Please bring a mask and gloves (leather, gardening or rubber/latex work fine) to prevent the potential spread of COVID-19. This is a HANDS-ON workshop, so please wear clothes you do not mind getting muddy. You may also want to bring water, sunscreen, and insect repellant.
Tara Remington (Remi) is an American multidisciplinary artist living in Louisville KY, whose processes include public art, installation, printmaking, drawing, photography and sculpture. Her work has a focus on mindful social justice around reflecting on equality and fairness for all humanity and the conservation and preservation of our shared earth. Heat, smoke, hair, and pottery! Join Broadway Clay and Josephine Sculpture Park to experience the raku firing process. Watch as potters remove their pieces from the kiln at bright-red heat and smoke them to create incredibly unique and beautiful surfaces. You will also learn more about the process from Broadway Clay’s professional educators and artists.
This event will take place outside behind the Josephine Sculpture Park Art Barn (adjacent to the parking lot). Please maintain at least 6ft distance from participants not in your household and wear a mask. Thank you for helping prevent the spread of COVID-19 and take care of our community!

Cob Method Small Scale Sculptures Workshop with Remi

Come get your hands in the mud and make some sculpture with JSP Artist in Residence, Tara (Remi) Remington! This workshop will bring community together in a small group of ten to explore a nature-based sustainable art practice using the cob method of building with earthen materials. Each participant will learn how to mix the cob materials to form realistic or abstract sculptures based on the natural world. A small limestone base will be provided. During the process of mixing and building with cob, a shared positive social experience and community connection will also be made.
We will begin the workshop with a walk around Josephine Sculpture Park to observe and be inspired by other sculptures, including the site and construction of Remi’s sculpture, TerraHand. We will begin our art practice with a mindful meditation moment – taking a moment to remember our connection to the earth with mindful breathing and centering. Then, we will use the cob method to build personal small scale sculptures. Participants will also be encouraged to add a portion of their cob mixture to the TerraHand as part of a closing ceremony.
Please bring a chair or blanket, and a mask and gloves (any washable or vinyl gloves work fine) to prevent the potential spread of COVID-19. We will maintain a 6ft social distance outdoors during the workshop. This is a HANDS-ON workshop, so please wear clothes you do not mind getting muddy. You may also want to bring water, a snack, sunscreen, and insect repellant.

Are you curious about all the processes that go into making specific sculptures? Join us for our NEW Last Saturday Sculpture Tour series with Park Manager and Artist in Residence, Riley Fichter! During the last Saturday of each month, Riley will lead participants through an in-depth, themed tour of 3 to 5 sculptures in the Park. This month, Riley will focus on sculptures that are organic in form or material.

Join NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador, Dan Price of Starpointe Astronomy, to explore the night sky – including the Orion Nebula and the moon – at Josephine Sculpture Park! Dan will guide participants in viewing 3 bright planets, the moon, and some deep sky objects. Thanks to a donation from the Holman Enterprises Leadership Team, Dan will set up a camera and monitor to enhance your night sky observations while maintaining COVID-19 safety guidelines.
Please arrive at the 8pm start time in front of the JSP Art Barn adjacent to the parking lot, and leave by the 9pm end time (this is NOT like past NSTs during which you could come and go throughout the event).

Sculpture Saturday Tour: Sculptures and the Landscape

JSP’s unique landscape greatly impacts the sculptures on exhibition. Join Jonathan Forrence, JSP Artist in Residence & Park Manager, to explore how artists can create and install their sculptures in response to the landscape! This tour will feature several sculptures, including one of JSP’s newest pieces by 2021 Artist in Residence, Heidi Zenisek.

Masks are welcome but not required. Please maintain a safe social distance from participants not from your household.

Sculpture Saturday Tours occur the last Saturday of each month and feature a different theme each month. Join us!

*Accessibility: Our paths are mowed and traverse the landscape to be as accessible as possible by motorized wheelchair. However, some paths are not accessible. Please contact us prior to your visit if you would like to reserve our golf cart.

The ringed planet is always a treat to observe through a telescope, and the Saturnian system has changed our view of the cosmos. Join NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador Dan Price of Starpointe Astronomy as we learn all about Saturn! We will then observe the night sky through our telescopes, discovering more about the universe we inhabit.

JSP artist-in-residence Andréa Stanislav creating an immersive art experience, accompanied by dancers from the Kentucky Dance Academy

Lexington Philharmonic, Josephine Sculpture Park & their artist-in-residence Andréa Stanislav, join together to present Symphonic Stroll, an immersive evening of music, art, and nature!

Stroll through the Park to discover LexPhil musicians performing pieces that compliment the sculptures.
Throughout the evening, engage with Reflect, Stanislav’s immersive performance, an ongoing migratory global public art intervention.

Timed entry and repeat performances result in live music throughout the Park at every moment as you enjoy an immersive music, art, and nature experience!

Starpointe Astronomy and JSP proudly host monthly Night Sky Tours as a member of the NASA Museum Alliance.

The largest planet in the solar system is also one of the most fascinating. NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador Dan Price of Starpointe Astronomy will discuss new findings from the Juno mission, currently in orbit around Jupiter. We’ll also observe the night sky telescopically and Dan will answer any questions you might have.

Raku Firing Demonstration with Broadway Clay

Heat, smoke, hair, and pottery! Join Broadway Clay and Josephine Sculpture Park to experience the raku firing process. Watch as potters remove their pieces from the kiln at bright-red heat and smoke them to create incredibly unique and beautiful surfaces. You will also learn more about the process from Broadway Clay’s professional educators and artists.
