International Jazz Day Festival at State Stadium
State Stadium 105 Regan Street, Frankfort, KY, United StatesUNESCO designated the last day of April as International Jazz Day, and Kentucky State University is getting in on the act. In partnership with the City of Frankfort sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts, the first In Tune Frankfort Cultural Concert Series event will feature KYSU Day of Jazz, which is free and open to the public.
The evening programming will kick off with a performance by Essence, a band directed by ZambianAmerican student performer Mugisha Donatien, known as DrippDaDon. The 20-piece ensemble is comprised of Kentucky State University students, many of whom are members of the Mighty Marching Thorobreds and the KYSU Concert Choir.
A jazz concert will be performed by the KYSU Jazz Faculty Ensemble, high-school workshop participants, the KYSU Jazz Ensemble, the KYSU Concert Choir, and guest artists Craig Bailey on saxophone, Jim Anderson on Bass, and Mike Hyman on drums.
